As a professional freelance writer with a slightly less
romantic name, Caroline Moon has written about crab fishermen,
Grammy-winning banjo pickers, terrorism-resistant architecture,
and rape; she has penned press releases, eulogies, cover
stories, and direct mail campaigns. She has listened unflinchingly
and respectfully as clients and interview subjects describe
their close personal relationships with Jesus, acutely
aware that a mere glimpse at her bookshelf or into her
toy box would prompt them to slam doors in her face.
Yet still she sets aside those articles and proposals
and press releases (somehow she thinks of all that as
her secular work) and turns to her beloved smut for sustenance
and comfort. Writing it, reading it, daydreaming about
it, creating intricate and complex scenarios in her fevered
little brain. "These are the things that help me
get through the other stuff without needing Xanax or Scotch,"
she says. Caroline lives in Hawai`i. |
